SUCCESSES
- During her stay at Barrett Transitional Home, L.E. realized
that her dream is to be a social worker. Starting on
that career path, L.E. worked in the community and at her college
work study program. She was assisted by the BTH case manager to
develop a savings plan that included buying a car before leaving
Barrett. She continues to be successful at work and
school and is maintaining her permanent housing.
- G.B. was a successful graduate from the program and moved into
permanent housing. During her stay, she graduated from
the Jobs Skills Training Program at Tidewater Community
College. She was able to purchase a car and has
continued to have career advancement after leaving the housing
program.
- Ms. K came to Barrett with a desire to actively work on her
substance abuse issues and to remove a large amount of
debt. Ms. K was determined to change her life and
stated all she needed was "a fresh start". She became
involved with her recovery, was employed and started the process
of rebuilding her personal relationships and her financial life.
Ms. K was able to secure her own apartment and continues to work
and maintain sobriety.
- R.B. is a current resident who is also actively addressing her
substance abuse history. She volunteers in the
community and is a student at the JSTP program at
TCC. She has received a voucher for permanent housing
through the partnership with Norfolk Community Services Board's
Shelter Plus Care permanent housing program.
